Culture is a special language for the peoples’ and countries’ mutual understanding, for bringing them closer together: Spouse of the President of Armenia Mrs. Nouneh Sarkissian visited the State of Kuwait at the invitation of the Sheikha of Kuwait Hussa Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah

At the invitation of the Director General of the Islamic Antiquities Museum of Kuwait, Co-Founder of the Al-Sabah collection Sheikha Hussa Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah, Mrs. Nouneh Sarkissian visited the State of Kuwait.

The previous meeting between Mrs. Nouneh Sarkissian and Sheikha Hussa Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah took place last September, in Yerevan. During the mentioned visit, considering multiple similarities, they decided to strengthen relations and cooperation. All this turned into a warm friendship (it is proved also by the fact that the Kuwaiti side took care of all expenses of the Armenian delegation related to the trip). In Armenia, Sheikha Hussa Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah visited a number of cultural establishments and was hosted at the “Yerevan, My Love“ Fund, familiarized with its activities and programs. Sheikha Hussa Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah, who has a considerable experience in the preservation of architectural monuments, inquired about the works and projects of the Fund in the preservation of historic structures.

The agenda of the visit of the spouse of the President of Armenia to Kuwait was also based of a cultural and educational program. The spouse of the President of Armenia Mrs. Nouneh Sarkissian was hosted by Sheikha Hussa Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah.

During the conversation, which took place in a warm atmosphere, they noted that their countries and peoples, along with rich history, are also united by a steady present and a promising future. Sheikha Hussa Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah said that she was recalling warmly her visit to Armenia and is very impressed with everthing she had seen during her visits to the cultural establishments.

At the meeting, which took place at the residence of Sheikh Sabah al Almad Al Sabah, Mrs. Nouneh Sarkissian expressed thanks for the warm reception. The spouse of the President of Armenia said that cultural dialogue is one of the best platforms for the nations’ mutual understanding, and in case of Armenia and Kuwait it is very strong and comprehensive. The interlocutors discussed opportunities of cooperation between the Islamic Antiquities Museum of Kuwait and Armenia’s scientific and cultural establishments, stressed the importance of reciprocal exhibitions, particularly introduction of the Armenian cultural heritage in Kuwait and Islamic culture and arts in Armenia.

In the framework of her visit to the State of Kuwait, Nouneh Sarkissian visited the Center of Sheikh Hussa, toured the Center, familiarized with the exhibits and their history. Mrs. Sarkissian conversed with the employees of the Center and visiting children and read for them in English one of her own fairytales.

Accompanied by Sheikha Hussa Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah, the spouse of the President of Armenia visited the Yarmouk cultural center where she observed exhibits from the famous Al Sabah collection.

Sheikha Hussa Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah is the co-owner of the collection. Mrs. Nouneh Sarkissian and Sheikha Hussa Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah discussed the opportunities of exhibiting some samples of the collection in Yerevan. The Al Sahab collection comprises valuable pieces of art, including unique manuscripts, carpets, precious jewerly, works of ceramics and metal, wood and glass.

At the National Library of Kuwait Mrs. Nouneh Sarkissian met with the Director of the National Council for Culture and Arts Kamel Abdul Jalil. She also visited the Bayt Abdallah Children’s Center hospital.

In the framework of her visit, the spouse of the President of Armenia met with the Minister of Information and Youth Issues of Kuwait Mohammed Al-Jabri.

Discussed were issues pertinent to the strengthening of cultural ties between the two friendly states and establishment of cooperation between scientific and educational structures. The interlocutors stressed the importance of different cultural events, exchange programs, and cultural weeks. Mrs. Nouneh Sarkissian said that culture is a special language for the peoples’ and countries’ mutual understanding, for bringing them closer together and is comprehensible and dear to all. She expressed hope that her visit would become another impetus for making the Armenian-Kuwaiti cooperation in the areas of education and culture even closer and for the implementation of joint programs. Mrs. Nouneh Sarkissian invited Minister Mohammed Al-Jabri to visit Armenia.

The spouse of the President of Armenia visited also the Armenian national school in Kuwait, familiarized with the teaching conditions, conversed with teachers and pupils. This educational establishment is the only Armenian daily school in the countries of the Persian Gulf and in Arab states.

During her meeting with the leadership, scouts, and pupils she conversed with them about issues related to the preservation of cultural, educational, and national identity. Noting that national spirit was really present at the school, Mrs. Nouneh Sarkissian hailed the importance of the school in teaching our language, faith, preservation of the Armenian identity and raising children in the Armenian spirit and thanked the teaching staff and pupils of the school for the high national spirit and their dedication to the national values. Mrs. Sarkissian wished our compatriots to hold strong to their national roots and ties to the Fatherland, trust their abilities and have faith in tomorrow and continue to register success.

In the Sourb Vardanants Church in Kuwait, Mrs. Sarkissian participated to the liturgy and later met with the representatives of the national board. They conversed about the activities of the national, sporting, cultural structures and their important and valuable role in the preservation of the Armenian identity and unification of the Armenian community of Kuwait.

It was noted that the Armenian community is well-known and respected in Kuwait.
