I will be a defender, while children are an absolute value for me: spouse of the President Mrs. Nouneh Sarkissian was appointed by UNICEF an extraordinary defender of children

The spouse of the President of Armenia Mrs. Nouneh Sarkissian today at the Mesrop Mashtots research and scientific institute of ancient manuscripts (Matenadaran) participated at the festive event dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the UNICEF activities in Armenia.

The UNICEF Representative in Armenia Tanja Radocaj announced that Mrs. Nouneh Sarkissian was appointed by the UNICEF an extraordinary defender of children’s rights. “When I met with Mrs. Sarkissian last year for the first time, she immediately offered her support and assistance to the children’s fund. Later, I learned about her activities, came to know her better and learned that she was a children’s author, whose books are very famous and are translated into different language which allows children of other cultures to read them,” Tanja Radocaj said. “Mrs. Sarkissian is a person who cares about children and tries her best to make their lives better. It’s a great honor for us to offer Mrs. Sarkissian to assume the mission of an extraordinary defender of children, uniting in this way our efforts and stressing the importance of this work not only in Armenia but also beyond.”

The spouse of the President Mrs. Nouneh Sarkissian thanked for entrusting her with such honor. Congratulating the UNICEF on the 25th anniversary of its work in Armenia, she underscored that for 25 years people have been putting in their work, efforts, and energy to create a better life for children. “UNICEF is an all-human structure which should carry on with its mission, and that is the reason that it shouldn’t be left alone not only in Armenia but all over the world. We should unite around the UNICEF so that kids have a happy childhood. Children are our wealth and the greatest asset,” Mrs. Sarkissian noted. She stressed the importance of creating equal opportunities and conditions for children and underscored that they all have the right of a happy, secure, and healthy childhood. Mrs. Sarkissian singled out the issue of providing children in the remote villages of Armenia with decent education. “One of the UNICEF’s and my own programs will be dedicated to the education and staffing the remote villages with teachers,” she underlined. “I will be honored to carry out the responsibilities of an extraordinary defender of children’s rights. I will be a defender, while children are an absolute value for me because every child is special, a miracle, a universe. Every child has a talent, a gift. I ask you all – find that talent, cherish it and develop, help the child develop it and use it in the future for our nation, people, the Fatherland. Our children need us, we all need to try to give them our love, our care and show that they are not alone and live in a country which is able to take care of them and provide for their future.”

The spouse of the President of Armenia Mrs. Nouneh Sarkissian assured that she would make every effort for the children to have a healthy, happy, and secure childhood.
