“Armenia is in our hearts”: Spouse of the President of Armenia Nouneh Sarkissian and Sheikha Hussah Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah of Kuwait visited the Cafesjian Center for the Arts

The spouse of the President of Armenia Mrs. Nouneh Sarkissian and Sheikha Hussah Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah, the General Director of Kuwait Museum of Islamic Art (DAI) and co-owner of the al-Sahab collection visited the Cafesjian Center for the Arts.

The members of the delegation of the Sheikha of Kuwait together with Nouneh Sarkissian toured the exhibition halls of the Center and familiarized with the history of the Center.

In the Khanjian Hall they watched with great attention the monumental fresco of the renowned artist Grigor Khanjian. At the conclusion of the tour, Mrs. Sarkissian noted that just as with any other foreign country, with Kuwait too, Armenia strives to maintain close cultural ties: “Since Sheikha is an expert of the Arabian art, we decided to invite her and show our culture with the expectation that we would be able to carry out exchanges. We propose bringing here Islamic manuscripts and books, including those from her and her husband’s personal collection. In return, we can temporarily provide the collection of the Arabic manuscripts from the Matenadaran. This will be a cultural exchange because culture, music, and books are the primary things which unite people.”

Sheikha Hussah Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah, who is in Armenia for the first time, noted, “We are very grateful for this wonderful invitation because Armenia has been presented to us it all its splendor. We are really thrilled to be here and to be shown different branches of the culture and arts. We are very impressed. At the proposal of our Armenian partners, we intend to carry out an exchange of exhibitions. There will be an exhibition from our Al-Sahab collection, and we would like to host an exhibition from Armenia. We are designing a very dynamic program. I believe, it will be possible to implement it next year.” In the framework of the Weeks of Culture, the two countries will have the opportunities to demonstrate their arts, music, and culinary arts.

“Armenia is in our hearts for a long time now. We have many Armenian friends, who live in Kuwait, as well as in Syria, Lebanon, and other places. We truly love and respect them. To come to their native land is just like to visit old friends. Armenia is unique. This is a place which everyone has to discover. This is a small country whose people are full of creativity. They are famous in the areas of music, literature, arts, and painting. This is an opportunity for us to familiarize with all this closer and through it to comprehend our own culture,” the Sheikha of Kuwait noted.
