President Serzh Sargsyan received directors of the British Arc Publications
President Serzh Sargsyan received today directors of the British Arc Publications Tony Ward and Angela Jarman as well as the Armenian writer and public figure Ramik Davoyan. The Arc Publications is planning to translate and publish his works.
President Sargsyan said that he values activities of the renowned British publishing house and its leadership, who are devotees of the arts and poetry and who are doing a great job for disseminating poetry and making it available to larger audiences.
“In these difficult times, in this rapidly shrinking and changing world, when market in some instances subjugates great art, the humanity definitely needs dedicated persons such as yourselves,” said President Sargsyan.
Considering the fact that the mentioned British publishing house specializes in presenting contemporary poetry, introducing modern English language poetry from Great Britain and other countries, as well as English translations of the works of individual poets and poetical almanacs, Serzh Sargsyan noted with satisfaction that the Armenian poetry too caught the attention of the publishing house. He expressed hope that this cooperation will reveal the warmth and philosophy present in the works of the one of the brightest representatives of the contemporary Armenian poetry Razmik Davoyan.
The directors of the British publishing house noted that to date they were not familiar with the works of Razmik Davoyan, but after familiarizing with them and getting more information about the author in the Armenian pavilion at the Frankfurt Book Fair, the company has firmly decided to publish his works.
President Serzh Sargsyan suggested that the directors met also with the Minister of Culture of Armenia and discuss possibilities of cooperation in the framework of the events to be organized in Yerevan which was declared by UNESCO the 2012 Book Capital of the World.
Also, consideration the fact that Arc Publications publishes a separate series dedicated to musicology, the President of Armenia’s second proposal was to publish a book in English, dedicated to the life and creative work of Komitas.
