State visit of President Serzh Sargsyan to the Republic of Cyprus
On January 17, President Serzh Sargsyan and Mrs. Sargsyan arrived to the Republic of Cyprus on a state visit.
After the official welcoming ceremony of the President of Armenia at the residence of the President of Cyprus, Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Demetris Christofias held private talks which were followed by the meeting with the participation of the delegations.
The Presidents of Armenia and Cyprus discussed the current stage of the bilateral and multilateral relations and prospects of their development in all areas. They also preset probable steps and measures whose successful implementation could foster further deepening of the relations. Serzh Sargsyan and Demetris Christofias discussed also regional and international issues of mutual interest.
After the meeting, there took place the ceremony of signing documents aimed at the enhancement of bilateral relations. Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Demetris Christofias signed a Joint Declaration on bilateral relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Cyprus.

Representatives of the relevant agencies of the two countries signed the “Agreement between the Governments of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Cyprus on Avoidance of Double Taxation and Prevention of Tax Evasion,” the “Memorandum of Understanding between the Governments of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Cyprus on the Program of Joint Activities for the implementation of the Agreement on Cooperation in the Area of Tourism,” and the “Working Program of the Governments of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Cyprus on Cooperation in the Areas of Health Care and Medicine”.
Later, at the residence of the President of Cyprus there took place the joint press conference of President Serzh Sargsyan and President Demetris Christofias.

In the framework of his state visit to the Republic of Cyprus, on January 17 at the Chamber of Commerce President Serzh Sargsyan attended the opening ceremony of the Armenian-Cyprus Business Forum with the participation of the representatives of the business communities of the two states.
The President of Armenia welcomed the participants and guests of the Forum and spoke about the current stage and perspectives of the Armenian-Cypriot economic cooperation, establishment and strengthening of relations between the Chambers of Commerce, business associations, investment and trade fostering structures. He also reflected on the steadfast support of the highest state authorities of the two countries to the steps aimed at the deepening of bilateral economic and trade relations which was discussed by the Presidents of Armenia and Cyprus during their private meeting.

In the framework of the state visit to Cyprus, President Serzh Sargsyan met on January 17 with Archbishop Chrisostomos II.
At the meeting the President of Armenia and Archbishop Chrisostomos II spoke about the centuries-long Armenian-Cypriot friendship, similarity in the destinies of the two nations, and the role and significance of church in the lives of the Armenian and Cypriot peoples for the preservation of culture and national identity in the difficult times when the two nations were deprived of statehood.
President Sargsyan discussed with Archbishop Chrisostomos II issues related to the Armenian community of Cyprus, which thanks to the Cypriot authorities and the Church was able to successfully integrate into the society of the country, maintaining at the same time its national identity.
Later, the President of Armenia met with the President of the House of Representatives Marios Garoyian and delivered a speech at the House of Representatives.

In the framework of his state visit to Cyprus, President Serzh Sargsyan visited also the Armenian Narek School, familiarized with the conditions, learned about its activities, and presented books.
Serzh Sargsyan visited also the Saint Mother of God Armenian Church and met with the representatives of the Armenian community.
In the evening of 17 January in honor of the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan and Mrs. Rita Sargsyan, who are in Cyprus on a state visit, the President of Cyprus Demetris Christofias and Mrs. Elsi Christofias gave a state dinner.
