President Serzh Sargsyan sent a congratulatory message to the 11th Convention of the Cinematographic Union of Armenia

Dear Participants and Guests of the 11th Convention of the Cinematographic Union of Armenia,

The Armenian cinema with its best creations has for decades been an important means for our self-discovery and communication with our national and moral values.

The Armenian audience, which has re-established its statehood twenty years ago, has new expectations from our cinema art which increase the movie professionals’ as well as the state’s responsibility for the development and future of the Armenian cinema.

We can state with satisfaction that in recent years, we have registered certain success in this area. Through the state support and efforts of independent movie producers, the cinema life has become richer and more diverse in its numerous manifestations. Armenia has become a recognizable destination for a number of movie festivals, particularly, thanks to the Golden Apricot Festival which in turn promotes understanding between the peoples and shapes a humanitarian environment.

It is also gratifying to see the constantly expanding participation of the Armenian movies at the reputable international festivals and there too we have certain success.

The Cinematographic Union of Armenia and Ruben Gevorkiants personally play an important role in bringing together the cinema professionals, in representing and protecting their interests, and in broadcasting the Armenian movie art.

The Armenian cinema art faces the urgent task of interpreting our modern history. The public is looking forward to its advancement through the joint efforts of the renowned masters as well as the young generation which is searching for self-affirmation.

I wish the Convention efficient work and remain hopeful that the Armenian cinema professionals will come up with new exciting ideas and initiatives.
