President Vahagn Khachaturyan received the students and graduates of “European Media Facility in Armenia - Building Sustainable and Professional Media” project
On April 6, at the Residence of the President, President Vahagn Khachaturyan received the students and graduates of “European Media Facility in Armenia - Building Sustainable and Professional Media” project organized by “Factor TV” media website.
Within the framework of the project, “Factor TV”, alongside BBC Media Action and Deutsche Welle Akademie, organizes three-month internships to develop practical skills for journalism students of Armenian universities. The project aims at promoting high-quality journalism and contributing to the improvement of the media environment. During the meeting, the President spoke of the restrictions on freedom of speech, as well as censorship of the press and information during the Soviet era.
The President talked to the participants of the project in a friendly atmosphere, touching upon different aspects of the importance of journalism.
During the meeting, the students addressed questions to the President on different realities in the 90s, his personal experience and the current issues in the field of journalism.
The President spoke about his experience as the Mayor of Yerevan and the difficulties of managing the city at times of war and energy crisis.
Vahagn Khachaturyan stressed that as the fourth power, journalists bear the responsibility for the events taking place in the country in terms of covering them without falsification and in accordance with reality and providing credible information to the public.
