President Vahagn Khachaturyan received the delegation of the Supreme Court of Cassation of Italy
President Vahagn Khachaturyan received the delegation led by the First President of the Italian Supreme Court of Cassation Pietro Curzio.
Welcoming the guests, the President particularly noted: “I highly appreciate the fact that it was your personal initiative to visit Armenia and, of course, to share your long experience with your colleagues. In this crucial period in our state, the reforms in the justice and judicial system have their special role. Although our entire government, from the Prime Minister to our citizens, are concerned about the latest events, I mean the latest Azerbaijani aggression against the territory of the Republic of Armenia, nonetheless, the grand issues we need to solve are on the agenda, and the most important ones of them are the reforms in the judicial system.”
Pietro Curzio expressed gratitude for the reception and noted that this is his first visit abroad after being appointed to his new position. He particularly emphasized that the visit to Armenia is not by chance, they wanted to come into contact and compare themselves with a country they greatly respect, admire, and feel a strong friendship with. “During these days, we managed to get to know the culture and the ancient civilizational values of Armenia. We visited the Genocide Memorial and are impressed by its modest architecture. We are very touched by the reception we got in Armenia, which completely met our expectations”, noted Curzio.
During the meeting, President Khachaturyan touched upon the ongoing reforms of the justice system in Armenia, and within this framework, he mentioned the programs implemented alongside the European Union.
The President especially highlighted the importance of sharing experiences with Italy, from the viewpoints of both the fight against corruption in the state institutions and the establishment of diplomatic institutions and an independent judicial system. Both sides noted that the establishment of democratic institutions and democratic principles adopted by the Armenian authorities have no other choice.
At the end of the meeting, Pietro Curzio noted that he will share the positive results of the visit and the impressions they got from the warm reception with the President of Italy Sergio Mattarella.
