The President of the Republic Armen Sarkissian sent a message of condolences on the death of Alexander Topchyan, which says:
"I was deeply saddened to hear about the death of Alexander Topchyan, a translator, literary scholar and literary critic, laureate of the RA President's Award, and Movses Khorenatsi medalist.
Through his life and creative activity, Alexander Topchyan represented the literary criticism and studies of his epoch, and at the same time, developed the high literary and artistic taste of several generations.
Due to his unique sense of the word and style, many of the best specimens of French and Russian literature have become available to us in Armenian translation. They bear ever-lasting evidence on translator Alexander Topchyan’s invaluable contribution to our cultural environment, a unique part of which is his multi-genre books, analyses and articles in literary studies and criticism as well.
Throughout his life, he fulfilled his mission of a devotee to art and culture with dignity, leaving his literary work as a bright mark in the memory of the art-loving and art-appreciating public.
I send my deepest condolences and words of consolation to Alexander Topchyan's family, relatives, colleagues, and friends."
