President Armen Sarkissian received the Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Olivér Várhelyi
Today, President of the Republic Armen Sarkissian received Olivér Várhelyi, Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, who is in Armenia within the framework of a regional visit, and the delegation accompanying him.
Welcoming the visit of the delegation headed by the Commissioner to Armenia, President Sarkissian particularly said. "We highly appreciate our friends and the support we receive from them. Especially now are hard days for Armenia, and our country is trying to get out of the difficult post-war situation. I am optimistic, and I think we will finally be able to resolve all the problems."
The EU Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement said that his visit aims to emphasize the significance of cooperation and partnership with the countries of the South Caucasus region for the EU.
President Sarkissian and the high-ranking European official touched upon the post-war situation in the region, particularly the emerged humanitarian problems, and spoke about the possible support of the European Union. Olivér Várhelyi said that the European Union attaches great significance to the stability of the region and is ready to support the establishment of lasting peace.
They also touched upon the deepening and development prospects of Armenia-EU cooperation in different directions.
The European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement noted that the EU offers Armenia a large economic and investment package seriously considered for a long time, and the implementation of which is a good chance for economic and social recovery of the country to become stronger after overcoming the crisis. He also stressed the EU's readiness to assist with regional challenges and economic integration processes.
Referring to the investment package provided by the EU to Armenia, President Sarkissian said that it creates good opportunities for Armenia, and its effectiveness depends on the precise implementation of targeted programs. The President especially emphasized the development of future-oriented directions, in particular the implementation of the latest technologies and projects aimed at promoting the fields of artificial intelligence. In this context, they also spoke about the cooperation within the Presidential ATOM (Advanced Tomorrow) Initiative.
Olivér Várhelyi noted that they are also ready to work with Armenia in the fight against coronavirus, including the provision of vaccines, recognition of vaccine certificates, and other areas.
