On the Prime Minister's proposal to appoint Artak Davtyan Chief of the General Staff of the RA Armed Forces

On March 11, 2021, the President of the Republic returned the Prime Minister's proposal to appoint Artak Davtyan Chief of the General Staff of the RA Armed Forces and the attached draft decree with his objections. On the same day, the President received the Prime Minister's arguments on his objections.

The President of the Republic will not sign the draft decree and will not apply to the Constitutional Court.

We remind you that on March 10, 2021, the President of the Republic had applied to the Constitutional Court with a request to determine the issue of conformity of the relevant provisions of the law “On the Military Service and the Status of Servicemen” with some articles of the Constitution. The decision of the Constitutional Court and possible measures taken may have a significant impact on the legal arrangements for the dismissal and appointment of the Chief of the General Staff.
