President takes part in Republic Day celebration

President Serzh Sargsyan, accompanied by RA top officials and guests, today partook in the Republic Day celebration at Sardarapat Memorial. The president laid a wreath at the Memorial to the Battle of Sardarapat and paid tribute to the memory of heroes. RA President Serzh Sargsyan, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, greeted the participants of the festive military parade and congratulated them on Republic Day. Afterwards, the president watched the festive cultural program in company of celebration attendees.

Following the celebration, Serzh Sargsyan visited the National Museum of Armenian Ethnography and History of Liberation Struggle where a solemn award ceremony took place dedicated to Republic Day.

By presidential decrees, a number of representatives from the areas of science, education, economy, healthcare, culture, arts and sports, representatives from the diaspora, as well as a group of Armenian army servicemen were awarded state decorations and titles. Serzh Sargsyan congratulated the awardees on the occasion of Republic Day and being received high state decorations and titles and handed over the decorations to them.

“Dear ladies and gentlemen,

I cordially congratulate you on the occasion of being received high state decorations and titles. It is crucial to each society to find, honor and encourage the deserving ones.

It is important because it gives us the opportunity to express our gratitude for the work, because there appear people deserving to be imitated whose devotion and efforts do not remain unnoticed and fruitless. It is important since it inevitably encourages you as well, dear colleagues, so that you do not rest on your laurels and do not stop. I think that the fact of being received high state decorations today on May 28, on the occasion of Republic Day and just here, in Sardarapat, holds great significance, which is the vivid testimony to our people’s heroic spirit and desire to struggle, our ability to live and revive and to our faculty to keep each other’s back firm during decisive moments.

I am sure that from now on, each of you will keep on pursing, with greater devotion and vigor, our common goal of making our house prosperous, correcting our faults and building a better Armenia. I also strongly believe that there are no minor and major deeds; loving your work is what real happiness is. You have already passed through a difficult path to reach Sardarapat today. I hope that you will not only continue, but also will level a road for others, will back other people’s undertakings and ideas.

In Sardarapat, the president also delivered a Republic Day congratulatory address to our people.
