President Serzh Sargsyan receives Cypriot National Defense Minster Christoforos Fokaides
President Serzh Sargsyan today received Christoforos Fokaides, Minister of National Defense of the Republic of Cyprus, who has arrived in Armenian on an official visit.
Serzh Sargsyan welcomed the guest and attached importance to senior-level reciprocal visits in terms of the strengthening of bilateral interstate relations. The president underscored that the Armenian people greatly appreciate the fact that the Cypriot president and the parliament speaker took part in the commemorative ceremony of the Armenian Genocide Centennial on April 24 this year. Serzh Sargsyan said that it is a vivid illustration of full solidarity and sincere friendship with the Armenian people and stressed that Armenia will forever remember and mention that fact.
The interlocutors noted that the historical relationship between Armenia and Cyprus has lasted many years, and it has been famous for its bright pages. The RA president and the Cypriot defense minister attached great importance to maintaining the current dynamics of bilateral interstate political dialogue, which they agreed provided the opportunity to always be aware of and give adequate solutions to issues of primary concern.
At the meeting, the parties also touched upon the defense cooperation between Armenia and Cyprus based on firm foundations and mutual trust, and its further enhancement. In this regard, the parties welcomed the activities of the Armenian-Cypriot Intergovernmental Commission for Defense and Technical Military Cooperation.
