President receives delegation headed by Georgian Parliament Speaker
President Serzh Sargsyan today received a delegation headed by David Usupashvili, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament. The President welcomed the guests and expressed satisfaction with the fact that in recent years senior-level visits have intensified, thereby giving a fresh breath of air to bilateral relations and providing an opportunity to discuss and find solutions to multifarious items on the Armenian-Georgian agenda. President Serzh Sargsyan and the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament agreed that the brotherly and good-neighborly relationship between Armenia and Georgia, which rests upon firm historical grounds, has been continuously enhanced at interstate level where, according to the interlocutors, parliamentarians have played an irreplaceable role.
Considering the current level of political partnership, Serzh Sargsyan and David Usupashvili also attached great value to taking a balanced and delicate approach to the issues of great mutual concern and to respecting each other’s interests.
David Usupashvili expressed satisfaction with the results of his Yerevan meetings and offered his appreciation for the warm hospitality extended to his delegation. He underscored that the goal of his visit was to once again emphasize and send a clear message to the Armenian public that regardless of different integration paths chosen by Armenia and Georgia, the two friendly people would always be together. “We live in such a tense region and in such a complex geopolitical situation that peace and stability are of great significance for our peoples. I am sure that the more often we meet and clearly express our positions, effectively responding to newly-risen issues, the more we will contribute to the strengthening of interstate and friendly ties between our peoples,” noted the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament. According to him, his visit once again reaffirmed the belief that there could be no conflict between Georgia and Armenia; there were issues that could be addressed through negotiations.
“The high level of relations enjoyed by our countries allows us to honestly and freely discuss all issues and find solutions jointly, thus preserving our friendship. Armenia has always placed great importance on Georgia’s role not only in developing bilateral relations, but also in maintaining security and stability in the South Caucasus region,” mentioned President Serzh Sargsyan.
At the meeting, the sides reflected upon regional issues and present challenges. President Serzh Sargsyan presented the guests with the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process. Serzh Sargsyan and David Usupashvili also talked about issues pertaining to the preservation of Armenian cultural and spiritual heritage in the territory of Georgia, touched upon certain problems faced by RA citizens residing in Georgia as a result of the country’s new visa policy and discussed ways to deal with them.
