President Sargsyan hosted medal recipients for 2009-2010 academic year from Armenia’s secondary schools...
President Serzh Sargsyan hosted today in the Presidential Palace medal recipients for 2009-2010 academic year from Armenia’s secondary schools, students-laureates of international Olympiads and winners of Kangaroo math competition.
At the meeting, which has already become a good tradition, President Sargsyan congratulated the schoolchildren who demonstrated impressive results and those who have already been admitted to the higher education establishments. He wished them success in their studies and personal lives. In his welcoming remarks the President of Armenia said, in particular, the following:
“I am glad to welcome you here, at the Presidential Palace. As I promised, we will be hosting here all those children and young people who have shown excellent results and excelled their peers. We bring these young people here to congratulate and honor them. I want to congratulate you all on your successful performance and thank you for your patriotism. Yes, patriotism because knowledge and excellent results in learning are patriotic acts. Every person acquires knowledge for himself or herself but uses it also for the country and for public good. We are proud of you, without you strong state and healthy society are not possible, at least the state and society we aspire to have.
I also congratulate and express gratitude to all our medal recipients. This is your first serious success in life and I am confident that each and every one of you is determined to build up that success. I am confident that after entering higher education institutions you will be more persistent in advancement toward getting new knowledge. You’re entering life with a solid fund of knowledge, which is, undoubtedly, a great advantage. I believe you should expect special attitude toward yourselves – not only respect and love but also greater demands because will be presented with such demands. All those who have more are required to give back more, and you shouldn’t be embarrassed by that – just accept it as a fact. I believe in that case, success will be your ally.
I thank all those who were able to uphold Armenia’s prestige at the international Olympiads. To reach success, to become laureates of international competitions and contests is a tough but also an honorary task. In our case it deserves double commendation since in terms of population size and resources we are not the greatest or wealthiest nation in the world. However it proves that a great generation has grown up in our country, that we have brilliant students and excellent teachers. And despite the fact that our education area has numerous problems, we show at the same time excellent results.
We always commend all those, and it’s a right thing to do, who make our nation more recognizable: it can be in the area of music, or great contribution to the scientific area, or victories in international Olympiads. Evidently, in Armenia we commend a generation which is able to carry on with the great task of the previous generation and even our forefathers.
I would like to specially recognize our juniors, who won in Kangaroo contest. Nice job, my little friends, thank you for being great kids, praise goes also to your parents and teachers. I trust this is your first success, and it should be very inspiring. I wish that some years later you become winners in the specialized Olympiads, become medals recipients, become personalities who open new ways, personalities respected in our society. I have no doubt that you will be. I would like to repeat: Without you, without persons like you our country has no future. I am not saying that there is only one group of children in Armenia which should be responsible for the future of our country. Undoubtedly, there are many others, however you stand out with your knowledge and it certainly means something.
On the occasion of Knowledge Day, I want to congratulate you, your teachers, parents and our entire society. Knowledge is power, great power and we, our nation needs such power. I want to everybody understand it clearly – our future will be shaped by the level of engagement of the persons like you; tomorrow depends on how well you can apply your knowledge. You’re entering a stage in your lives when you will be making independent choices and decisions. You will choose what to become, where to live, whom make friends with, but the only thing you cannot choose is our homeland, our roots. You will always be called Armenians. You should be proud and worthy of that name. Should be able to give precise answers to what means to be Armenian, where we come from and where we go. These questions are more easily answered by those who receive constant impulses from their roots, from our motherland, and one should be ready and tuned to receive these impulses. Wherever you go always remember that this is your country and that your country is always with you. Also remember that we all have responsibilities toward our country. It is very important. I want you to make conscious choices in future as well, so that you’re happy with your choice. In many cases when the choice is not right, when your family doesn’t like it, it causes problems. However one thing is certain: If you have made your choice, and accepting all the seriousness of your choice, you must be ready to fight for that choice. I am sure you have the necessary will power because without will power you wouldn’t have got your medals and wouldn’t have won at the Olympiads and at Kangaroo contest,” said President Sargsyan.
The President of Armenia invited schoolchildren who excelled in their studies and students who have been admitted to the higher education establishments to hold a sincere conversation and expressed readiness to answer their questions.
At the conclusion of the meeting, President Sargsyan handed to the medal recipients of 2009-2010 academic year and winners of Kangaroo their medals, awards and souvenirs.
