President Serzh Sargsyan received Jacques Diouf, Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received Jacques Diouf, Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). He has arrived to Armenia to participate at the 27th regional FAO conference for Europe and Central Asia.
Welcoming the fact that the conference was conducted in Yerevan, President Sargsyan praised the efforts of the Food and Agriculture Organization aimed at the reduction and ultimate eradication of hunger in the world. The President of Armenia also hailed FAO’s contribution to the improvement of the standard of living in rural areas, food security, agricultural production and to the development of agriculture in general. Noting, that in one of its reports the Organization praised Armenia’s efforts toward the development of agriculture in the country, Serzh Sargsyan said, “We believe that your Organization has its share in that success, it is also the result of bilateral cooperation.”
On behalf of the FAO and its member states Jacques Diouf thanked the President for hospitality and organization of the meetings on a high level. “We are satisfied with the level of cooperation with Armenia,” the Director-General of FAO said, noting that the scope of joint programs and allocated resources were the best proof of that cooperation. He also hailed progress achieved by Armenia in poverty reduction.
Jacques Diouf assured the President of Armenia that FAO was ready to continue its assistance to Armenia for the agriculture development. President Sargsyan stressed that the cooperation with FAO is important not only from the financial point of view but also for experience sharing and introduction of business ethics.
