President Serzh Sargsyan received the EU Enlargement and European Neighborhood policy Commissioner Stefan Fuele
Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received the EU Enlargement and European Neighborhood policy Commissioner Stefan Fuele and his delegation.
The President of Armenia welcomed the first visit of the Commissioner to Armenia and noted that it presents an excellent opportunity to familiarize with our country and discuss issues of mutual interest. “European direction is one of the pivotal components of our foreign policy and we are keenly interested in deepening cooperation,” the President of Armenia underscored.
In his turn, the EU Enlargement and European Neighborhood policy Commissioner Stefan Fuele noted that the EU-Armenia relations were approaching a new threshold which envisages a higher level of cooperation.
The parties noted with satisfaction that the launch of the EU Eastern Partnership initiative has propelled the EU-Armenia relation to a new level and currently these relations are on the rise. Stefen Fuele praised activities of the EU expert group in Armenia.
The two sides highlighted three key components of the EU-Armenia relations: in political area – start of negotiations on the association agreement with the EU in the framework of the Eastern Partnership; in economic area – signing of a comprehensive free trade agreement; and third, possibility of visa facilitation for the citizens of Armenia traveling to the EU countries. The parties held interested discussions regarding all the mentioned issues.
The parties concurred that Armenia and EU are bonded through the common system of values and underlined that a more efficient and full utilization of the existing opportunities can help in employing that cohesion as a vehicle for achieving greater results. “Please be assured that we are ready to be your keen helpers,” the EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood policy stressed.
The President of Armenia and the high-ranking EU officials exchanged also views on regional issues. Commissioner Fuele reiterated EU's unwavering support to the process of the Armenian-Turkish normalization and praised resolute steps of the Armenian President in that direction.
