The President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan received the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization
On October 23, the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan received the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization Mr. Kunio Mikuriya.
At the meeting discussed were issues related to Armenia’s cooperation with the WCO and improvement of the customs administration.
The President of Armenia noted that this visit is an important impetus for the expansion of Armenia’s cooperation with the customs of other countries and implementation of reforms in the customs administration.
The President of Armenia stressed the importance of the development of the customs administration in Armenia and bringing it up to international standards, particularly in the context of mitigation of the consequences of the global economic and financial crisis. “Some progress has been registered in this area already, however it is just a beginning of a huge work. Our aim is to create favorable conditions for businesses, and insure a fair and efficient collection of the tax revenues. Qualitative improvement of the customs work is essential, and with this regard we also anticipate your organization’s assistance,” noted the President of Armenia.
Mr. Kunio Mikuriya said that Armenia’s progress in the area of customs administration was noticeable and if the reformation continues it would allow to increase the trade volume, foster investments, and consequently to increase the tax revenues. He expressed readiness to contribute to the improvement of Armenia’s customs administration through a concrete program and with the participation of the experts from the World Customs Organization.
