According to Serzh Sargsyan, even though the Armenian-Cypriot relations are already on a high level, the existing potential for deepening the cooperation offers much more. The President of Armenia stressed in particular the importance of conducting in the economic area encouraging policies for the business circles of the two countries, noting that the upcoming first meeting of the Armenian-Cypriot intergovernmental commission would specify corresponding steps.
Serzh Sargsyan spoke also about the programs to be implemented in the framework of the EU Eastern Partnership program and said that Armenia anticipates efficient cooperation with Cyprus in that format as well.
The President of Armenia thanked his Cypriot colleague for his country’s care toward the Armenian community as well as for the assistance provided to Armenia in difficult times. Speaking about the success of the three and a half thousand strong Armenian community in public, political, economic and other areas, President Sargsyan said that that success was inspired by favorable conditions and the Armenians’ ability of becoming true citizens of their adoptive countries which allows them to fully integrate in the society and display their best.
The President of Cyprus said that the Armenia-Cyprus relations are so close that he and his delegation feel in Armenia like at home. He also said that the Armenians, who had found refuge in Cyprus after the Genocide, through their creative and constructive skills contribute to all spheres of the country’s life.
Dimitris Christofias reiterated his country’s to assist Armenia in the EU structures and EU regional cooperation programs. “Without sounding pretentious, I would like to assure that Armenia can view Cyprus as her ambassador at the European Union,” the President of Cyprus underscored.
