President Serzh Sargsyan received the President of the Russian Railroads OJS Company, Vladimir Yakunin
Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received the President of the Russian Railroads OJS Company, Concession Manager of the Armenian railroad system, Vladimir Yakunin.
Stressing the strategic nature of the Armenian-Russian partnership, President Sargsyan said, “We view Russia as our most reliable partner and attach great importance to the further strengthening of our bilateral relations.” According to the President of Armenia, with this regard transportation in general and railroad transportation in particular play significant role.
Vladimir Yakunin conveyed to President Sargsyan best wished from the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, noting that he met with him before leaving for Armenia.
The President of the Russian Railroads Company thanked the President of Armenia for understanding the importance of railroads in the economic development and for constant attention toward this issue. He informed that today he visited the exhibition of the products designed for the needs of railroad transportation, which was organized by the management of the South Caucasus Railroad system and Armenian businessmen. According to the President of the Russian Railroads, the exhibited products are already being used by the South Caucasus Railroads as well as in Russia since the price-quality correlation is rather attractive. Besides, the Company’s main principle is to give the preference to the local producer.
The parties discussed the current state of the Armenian railroads, prospects of its development, and the process of the implementation of the obligations assumed by the parties under the concession agreement. They spoke, in particular, about the ways of updating the railroad system, renovation of rolling stock and rails, technical modernization, increased speed of the trains, as well as the issues related to the development of the most optimal rout for the cargo transportation in the shortest possible time with minimal expense.
Vladimir Yakunin said that overall he was pleased with the works conducted recently and that serious steps have been taken to raise the efficiency of the management. The President of the Russian Railroads assured the President of Armenia that all the assumed investment obligations would be completely fulfilled.
