Address by President Serzh Sargsyan on the occasion of Yerevan City Council elections
Dear residents of Yerevan,
The first elections of the Yerevan City Council have been concluded. We are establishing a new system of administration in the capital which is a serious step forward in strengthening democracy mechanisms in Armenia, and on that occasion I congratulate all Yerevaniens.
I congratulate the Republican Party of Armenia, Prosperous Armenia, and Armenian National Congress for their success in the elections and wish them productive work in the City Council. I also congratulate other participating political forces for running quality pre-election campaign and for a productive employment of the opportunity to put forward practical ideas and sensible approach regarding development of our capital.
The elections and the entire pre-election phase proved that we have been able to solve a significant number of the problems present in the election processes for years and make headway regarding the resolution of the others. As a result, these elections are really a step forward.
Regrettably, a number of infringements have been registered at some precincts. With this regard my position is unambiguous: interests of one individual or a group of individuals cannot be higher that the interests of the state and fair elections are the state’s highest interest. It commands not only total exclusion of any violations but also unrelenting determination in the exposure of those violations and their elimination. Thus, we all demand that each singular violation is exposed and those responsible are punished according to the law.
Dear residents of Yerevan,
I once again extend my congratulations on the election of the City Council and wish wellbeing to our capital, and all the best and success to its residents.
