President Serzh Sargsyan received seven-time World Chess Champion, Anatoly Karpov
Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received the well-known public figure, the President of the Peace Foundation, seven-time World Chess Champion, Anatoly Karpov.
The President of Armenia said that Anatoly Karpov was always welcome in Armenia and that his victories were not only well-remembered in our country but also his public activities were well-acknowledged.
According to A. Karpov, the Peace Foundation, which was established in 1983, has branches in 27 countries around the world and is actively engaged in various activities. He also noted that after the devastating Spitak earthquake in 1988, the Foundation was among the first to provide assistance to the victims.
Speaking about the upcoming plans, Anatoly Karpov said that in October he was planning to organize in Armenia an exhibition of the products of a number of Russian enterprises. He also highly praised the activities of the Armenian branch of the Foundation.
The interlocutors spoke also about Armenia’s success in the chess tournaments and prospects for chess playing development. The World Chess Champion also said that team spirit was among the factors that contributed to the success of the Armenian Olympian team. Noting, that support and assistance to the national teams was held in Armenia in high esteem, he said that such an approach, undoubtedly, yields results.
