President Serzh Sargsyan received high officials of foreign offices of the states member to the BSEC
Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and Turkey, high officials of foreign offices of the states member to the Black Sea Economic Cooperation organization, and the Secretary General of the BSEC, who arrived to Yerevan to participate at the 20th session of the BSCE Ministerial Council.
Armenia was chairing the BSEC for six months, starting from November, 2008.
Welcoming the guests, the President of Armenia expressed confidence that relations formed among the BSEC member states would promote regional security and peace.
Noting, that Armenia highly values her participation in the works of the Organization, President Sargsyan stressed the importance of enforcing cooperation among the states of the region. He said that during her presidency Armenia organized a number of events which were aimed at the resolution of the problems facing the Organization and were dealing with important areas such as transportation, communications, energy, small and medium business. “Armenia attaches great importance to the increased efficiency of the BSEC activities and during the six months of her presidency was working from that very point of view”, the President of Armenia underlined.
The Secretary General of the BSEC, Leonidas Chrysanthopoulos said that Armenia did excellent job during her presidency and noted that in that period of time Armenia fostered the discussion and advancement of many important issues. Speaking about issues discussed by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs during their Yerevan meeting, he highlighted the fact that all the decisions were adopted by consensus which proves the efficiency of works.
The Foreign Ministers of Russia and Turkey also noted the efficiency and eventfulness of the Armenian presidency in the BSEC.
Speaking about the raised issues, the participants to the meeting noted that considerable attention was paid to the implementation of different regional infrastructure programs aimed at the alleviation of the consequences of the global financial and economic crisis, stressing the importance of security and peace issues.
President Sargsyan said that Armenia wishes to have normal relations with all her neighbors and holds the view that all, even most difficult issues could be solved through peaceful means, negotiations, and discussions for the benefit of countries and their peoples. Concluding his remarks, President Sargsyan proposed “Peace for cooperation and cooperation for peace” formula.
