President Serzh Sargsyan signed the order on the creation of the Fact-finding group of experts and on the regulation of its activities
On October 23, President Serzh Sargsyan signed the order on the creation of the Fact-finding group of experts and on the regulation of its activities.
The order enters into force on the next day after its official publication.
The Fact-Finding Group of Experts (the Group) will be engaged in revealing the reasons and finding facts about the events in Yerevan on March 1-2. The activity of the Group will be targeted at assisting the Ad Hoc Commission of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia in accomplishing the tasks posed to it.
For the implementation of its objectives and tasks the Group is entitled to demand and receive necessary materials from any state or local self-governance body, receive documents and explanations from physical and legal entities in case of consent of the latter. It can demand from corresponding state bodies to carry out investigations and provide expert conclusions on issue that need clarification. It can involve specialists, including foreign ones, in the fact-finding process.
The Group will comprise two representatives of the ruling coalition, one representative from the “Heritage” faction, one representative of the political force ruled by Levon Ter-Petrosyan and one member nominated by the Human Rights Defender. Members of the Group cannot be Members of Parliament, be a party member or affiliate. The Group’s activity is not subject to media coverage during the whole period of its activity.
