President Serzh Sargsyan received the delegation of the Switzerland-Armenia parliamentary group
Today President Serzh Sargsyan received the delegation of the Switzerland-Armenia parliamentary group, headed by National Councilors Ueli Leuenberger and Dominique de Buman.
The President of Armenia stressed the importance of developing multi-faceted relations with Switzerland and noted with satisfaction that in the recent years an interesting agenda of bilateral relations has already been formed. According to Serzh Sargsyan, a significant step in the future strengthening of the bilateral relations would be the establishment of the Swiss diplomatic representation in Armenia.
“We are reaching for European values and our goal is to make Armenia a modern, potent state, where people are prosperous, secure and well-protected,” the President of Armenia underscored.
In the Swiss-Armenian cooperation he noted the important role of the inter-parliamentary relations and expressed gratitude to the National Assembly of Switzerland for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide in 2003.
The Co-Chairs of the Switzerland-Armenia parliamentary group stressed the mutual similarities and noted that the two nations are the carriers of identical cultures, both have almost comparable landscape, both are land-locked with scarce natural resources but possess akin beliefs, skills, and knowledge. Another important factor according to one of the Co-Chairs, National Councilor Dominique de Buman, is the solidarity of Switzerland with the people of Armenia. He also said that “The recognition of the Genocide has become a starting point which started in history and is aimed into future.”
President Sargsyan welcomed the balanced approach of Switzerland toward our region and sensitive issues of our country. Regarding the NK conflict he said, “Our objective is to reach a peaceful resolution based on mutual concessions, taking into account the historical realities and, certainly, in the first place, the future of the people.”
Speaking about the Armenian-Turkish relations, Serzh Sargsyan reiterated that the Armenian side is ready to establish relations with Turkey without preconditions and after that to discuss different issues as neighbors.
At the meeting discussed were also the Armenian-Swiss projects being implemented in different areas.
