ADDRESS BY PRESIDENT SERZH SARGSYAN AT THE AWARD CEREMONY DEDICATED TO THE INDEPENDENCE DAY
Ladies and Gentlemen:
Today we present the highest state awards on the occasion of the 17th Anniversary of Armenia’s Independence.
Restoration of the Armenian statehood at the closing of the 20th century is the greatest achievement of our people. Each and every one of us has to strengthen that independence from day to day. Representatives of all the strata of our society – military personnel, artists, students, workers, miners, all of us – contribute our efforts and enthusiasm to the further strengthening of our state, upholding her international prestige and her spiritual and cultural awakening.
The joint award ceremony has become a tradition since practically all of you are serving one purpose – the advancement of our country.
Many nice words have been spoken about our army and troops and I am confident that they are worth of them now and will be worth of them in future. Nowadays our state is solving issues of defense and security, peaceful life and work for our citizens, and those present today in this hall have made their contribution toward that goal.
The Armenian statehood has a mission of preserving and developing the Armenian culture. Not only the creative people but also other workers of this area have a great role in that process since their joint efforts will bring a new impetus and sparkle to our cultural life.
The even development of our country requires simultaneous progress and complementarity of all areas. It means that specialists in all areas are equally important for us, especially those devoted to their jobs, who are receiving the awards today.
Dear friends who are receiving high state awards today,
I thank you for your professionalism and dedication. Any country becomes stronger through the works of those like you.
I cordially congratulate you on the occasion of our Independence Day. I wish you to be able to double your efforts. I wish you and your families all the best. I hope that each of you will achieve new heights in your work for the benefit of the Republic of Armenia and the Armenian people.
