President Serzh Sargsyan received a group of scientists
President Serzh Sargsyan received a group of scientists who arrived to Armenia to participate at the centennial celebrations dedicated to Victor Hambardzumian.
Expressing thanks for accepting the invitation and participation at the jubilee events dedicated of the great scientist, the President of Armenia said, “Victor Hambardzumian is indeed one of the most talented Armenian scientists and our people have a great respect for his memory which has at least four solid reasons: Victor Hambardzumian was a world-famous scientist with great administrative skills. After his arrival to Armenia, the precise sciences at the Armenian National Academy started to flourish. Thanks to the great scientist, the Armenians became much more recognizable in the world. He was also a great humanist who accepted universal values. At the same time he took the pains of his people close to his heart, and at the dire days through the great prestige that he had and the respect he enjoyed he was able to assist in the resolution of many problems.”
According to Serzh Sargsyan, Armenia will always hold the memory of her greatest son, and authorities on their behalf will insure the consistency of that process. “We will continue to celebrate Victor Hambardzumian,” President Sargsyan said and stressed that it is the younger generation who needs it most.
The President of Armenia spoke also about the current situation with sciences in Armenia, noting that along with the increasing opportunities of the state, the attention towards sciences is increasing as well. “We are trying to develop areas which have been traditional in Armenia and today can yield results. We are attempting to create small scientific centers and encourage our young people to engage in science.”
Renowned scientists from the US, Russia, France, Belarus, and other countries, paying tribute to the scientific works, leadership and personal qualities of Victor Hamabardzumian, noted that he is an outstanding phenomenon not only in the Armenian but also in the world science, who for many years chaired the International Scientific Union. They stressed the importance of scientific cooperation and expressed confidence that President Sargsyan’s approach toward science would undoubtedly produce results and that Armenia will present the world with new brilliant names.
