Working visit of the President Armen Sarkissian to the Italian Republic

 On November 14, President Armen Sarkissian arrived to the Republic of Italy on a working visit. 

In Rome, President Sarkissian met with the President of the Italian National Research Council Massimo Inguscio.

During a cordial and friendly conversation, the President of the Italian National Research Council noted that he was greatly interested in President Armen Sarkissian’s quant approach to global risks theory, particularly in the President’s new, innovative vision regarding the management of these risks. 

President Sarkissian and Massimo Inguscio spoke also about the deepening of the Armenian-Italian cooperation in science and expansion of educational and scientific ties. They underscored the existing great potential especially in the areas of natural sciences and high technologies, as well as stressed the importance of exchange programs for small research groups. 

President Sarkissian invited Massimo Inguscio to visit Armenia in the beginning of 2019 to discuss concrete areas of cooperation.

On November 14, President Armen Sarkissan in Rome participated at the “Digital Geopolitics: New Borders, Growth, and National Security” Conference.

The Conference was attended also by the Minister of Defense of Italy Elizabetta Trenta, the organizers of the Conference were represented by the Executive Director and President of Elettronica Group Enzo Benigni, a member of the Administration of the 44th US President Barack Obama political expert Alec Ross, representatives of scientific and expert community. 

At the Conference, President Armen Sarkissian made a statement. Speaking about globalization and the changing world, he noted that today the world is witnessing rapid changes. “The world is changing faster and faster by day. We are witnessing quant indications. And those, who appreciate that fact, will become tomorrow’s leaders. Globalization has changed from macro to micro: companies, individuals are now unstoppable,” Armen Sarkissian said. 

At the Conference, discussed were in particular issues related to the digital transformation of industry, changes registered under the new conditions in the defense, security, and aerospace areas.

President Armen Sarkissian on November 15 met with the leadership of the Italian National Association of Builders (ANCE).

At the meeting, the parties discussed opportunities for the Association’s activities in Armenia. President Sarkissian proposed to look into the possibility of restoration of ancient structures in Gyumri. The sides reached an agreement that representatives of the Association will visit Armenia in the nearest future, to see firsthand business and investment environment, learn about the opportunities and areas of cooperation. 

The National Association of Builders was founded in 1946 and comprises over twenty thousand private companies which specialize in building residential, commercial, and industrial structures, development of infrastructure, restoration works, and protection of the environment. The Association is active in 92 countries.

President Armen Sarkissian, who is in Italy on a working visit, on November 16 had a working meeting with Alessandro Profumo - Chief Executive Director of the Italian Leonardo company which is a leading company in the area of military equipment production. 

At the meeting, the parties held an engaged discussion on the opportunities with the Company in the areas of education and high technologies. 

President Sarkissian invited Mr. Profumo to conduct a visit to Armenia. 

Leonardo Company is specializing in the production of defense and security aerospace related equipment, broadly applying high technologies.

The Company has over 45000 employees and manufactures helicopters, aircrafts, aero systems, land and sea electronics, defense, security and information systems. The Company exports its production to dozen countries. 

Leonardo maintains considerable industrial presence at the internal markets of Italy, Great Britain, US, and Poland and cooperates strategically at the major international markets.

President Armen Sarkissian, who is in Italy on a working visit, met with the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella. 

President Mattarella welcomed his colleague’s visit to Italy. In a cordial and warm atmosphere, the Presidents discussed issues related to the strengthening of the Armenian-Italian relations. 

It was noted that high level visits considerably contribute to the deepening of the bilateral ties and give a new impetus to the development of cooperation of the two friendly states in all areas. 

President Sarkissian informed the counterpart on the meetings and agreements reached in the framework of his working visit to Italy. Stressing that wide opportunities exist for cooperation in the economic, cultural, and scientific areas, the Presidents underscored the importance of a full utilization of the existing potential.
