Working visit of President Serzh Sargsyan to Bursa /Republic of Turkey/
By the invitation of his Turkish colleague, the President of Armenia arrived to Bursa to watch a football match between Armenia and Turkey.
By the invitation of the President of Turkey Abdullah Gule, President Serzh Sargsyan arrived in the evening of October 14 to Bursa to watch a football match between the national teams of Armenia and Turkey.
The Presidential delegation comprised the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edward Nalbandian, Deputy Foreign Ministers, Arman Kirakossian and Shavarsh Kocharian, high level members of the Presidential Staff and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as dozens of Armenian journalists.
This is Serzh Sargsyan’s first visit to Turkey and the fourth visit on the Presidential level since Armenia’s independence.
At the airport of Bursa the delegation headed by the President of Armenia was welcomed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Ahmed Davutoglu, Mayor of Bursa, and other officials.
From the airport the President of Armenia headed for Holiday Inn hotel where he met with the members of the Armenian national team and spoke words of encouragment before the game.
Later, the delegation headed by President Sargsyan arrived to Almira Hotel, where he was greeted by the President of Turkey, Abdullah Gule. The Presidents of the two countries first met tête-à-tête and later were joined by their delegations. Discussed at the meeting were issues pertinent to the current stage of the normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations. The two Presidents concurred that this meeting as well as reciprocal visits in the framework of “football diplomacy” were an important step towards the establishment of the atmosphere of trust.
The President of Armenia stressed that the Republic of Armenia was determined to move forward towards the normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations without preconditions.
The President of Turkey held a dinner party in honor of the President of Armenia, after which President Sargsyan and President Gule watched the football match.
After the game, the delegation headed by the President of Armenia returned to Yerevan.
