Serzh Sargsyan participated at the annual award ceremony for the athletes and trainers of the Republic of Armenia
Tonight, President Serzh Sargsyan participated at the annual award ceremony for the athletes and trainers of the Republic of Armenia.
President Sargsyan congratulated the representatives of the sport world on the upcoming New Year and Christmas holidays, wished them good health and new achievements in sport and personal life. Serzh Sargsyan also handed to the 19 best athletes, their personal trainers and chief coaches of the national teams monetary awards.
In his congratulatory remarks, the President of Armenia noted that he didn’t share the opinion that 2011 has been a wait-and-see year, said that regarding sports, in his opinion and also in the opinion of the majority of our people, it’s been a successful year. “I believe it’s been a long time that our people have not demonstrated such interest in football. The national football team made us once again appreciate this wonderful sport and its results. I also think that many of us have lived multiple moments of joy and pride and even those, who have not been interested in football until now, nowadays speak about Henrikh Mkhitarian and Yura Movsissian.
I also believe that there is another great success: in 2011 our chess team once again proved that Armenia in a chess superpower. There is no doubt, and led by our brilliant player Levon Aronian our team has completed its collection of awards. We had all possible titles except one – the title of the world champions. Now, we have that one too. I trust this is a huge accomplishment as well as the mentioned 135 medals,” President Sargsyan said.
The President also expressed hope that in 2012, in the year of the Summer Olympic Games, our athletes, after a long interval, will bring to Armenia Olympic gold medals, for which, according to the President, there are great possibilities. He said that we should simply trust our own abilities and entirely dedicate ourselves to this important task.
Serzh Sargsyan assured that towards that end everyone, including the Olympic Committee, is ready to create all necessary favorable conditions.
