Working visit of President Serzh Sargsyan to Armavir marz
President Serzh Sargsyan conducted today a working visit to Armavir marz.
In the framework of the visit, President Sargsyan attended the inauguration of the newly constructed school in Aygek community, toured the premise and familiarized with the conditions in the new school.
In Armavir, the President of Armenia visited also a number of the region’s companies, where he was presented with the working processes and investment programs. Serzh Sargsyan visited, in particular, Arax Company Ltd battery farm in Arevshat community. To increase the production capacities, recently the farm has been augmented with a new compound for the preservation and breeding of the mother stock of the meat producing poultry. Moreover, last March a semi-processed foods assembly shop was also inaugurated in Arax Company Ltd battery farm.
In Etchmiadzin administrative region, the President of Armenia visited Amster Flowers and Biga Armenian-Dutch joint companies, toured the flower and mushroom growing units and familiarized with the new greenhouses construction works.
Biga Company looks into expanding its mushroom producing capacities and construction of compost producing factory. The only compost producing factory in the region will provide the producers of mushroom with the compost – material essential for mushroom growing. The Company plans also to export its production to other countries.
According to the agreement signed in 2010 between Amster Flowers Company and Dutch Ammerlaan Construction Company, in the new greenhouses of Amster Flowers built with the use of modern technologies, the Company will grow vegetables – tomato, cucumber and pepper – of enhanced taste and quality. At the tour, the President was informed that the first stage of construction works has already commenced. The works are to be concluded in August-September, and the first produce will be harvested in late October. The total amount of investments in this project is 1.200.000 Euros.
In Talvorik community of Armavir marz, President Serzh Sargsyan attended the inauguration ceremony of Shinik gravity water supply system which will provide the consumers with irrigation water. It was noted that before the rehabilitation of the gravity water supply system, irrigation was available for 600 hectares of land, while after the completion of the works the land under irrigation will grow by another 500 hectares, bringing thus the total of the irrigated land to 1100 hectares. The World Bank and Millennium Challenge Corporation-Armenia have been cooperating for the last two years and as a result it became possible to rehabilitate the most damaged parts and structures of Talin’s main water canal, and currently it has become the main source for Shenik gravity water supply system. The President of Armenia was also briefed on the main activities and current projects of the Millennium Challenge Corporation-Armenia.

It was noted that the canal is nourished with the waters of Arax river, while the main part of the water receiving system, which was constructed in the framework of World Bank sponsored program for the Development of Irrigation Systems, is of interstate significance. It was reported to President Serzh Sargsyan that the irrigation system of Armavir services 23.900 hectares of land. Nearly 5.000 hectares of privatized land were not irrigated for different reasons, one of them being the loss of water at the main water canal. At the conclusion of the rehabilitation of Armavir irrigation system, it will be possible to irrigate 2.300 hectares of these lands in the framework of the mentioned program.
