President Vahagn Khachaturyan sent a message of condolences to the family of the Chairman of the Academic Board of Zoryan Institute in Toronto Roger Smith.
The message says:
“I learnt with grief about the demise of the Chairman of the Academic Board of Zoryan Institute, founding member of the Association of Genocide Scholars, a renowned Genocide scholar and a great friend of the Armenian people Roger Smith.
The role of Roger Smith in recognizing and condemning the Armenian Genocide, bringing the Zoryan Institute's Genocide and Human Rights Studies Program to life, and educating many young Genocide researchers is invaluable.
In 2008, the President of Armenia awarded Professor Smith with the Movses Khorenatsi Medal for his distinguished contribution to the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
Throughout his long professional activity, Roger Smith created a rich scientific heritage that will be a benchmark for many generations to come.
I express my deep condolences and support to the Smith family, the employees of Zoryan Institute and the students of Roger Smith.”
