President Vahagn Khachaturyan received Ambassador of Canada to Armenia Andrew Turner

President of the Republic Vahagn Khachaturyan received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to the Republic of Armenia, Andrew Turner, who is completing his diplomatic mission in Armenia.

The President thanked the Ambassador for his work during his tenure and for his contribution to the development of Armenia-Canada relations.

The President noted that significant progress has been made recently in strengthening relations between Armenia and Canada, as well as in identifying new areas and prospects for cooperation. In this context, the President highlighted the visit to Armenia of the delegation led by Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, to participate in the 8th Summit of the European Political Community.

“During Your tenure, we have gone through complex and challenging times, and throughout this period Armenia has felt Canada’s support and assistance. I would also like to thank You and the Government of Canada in this regard,” President Khachaturyan said.

The President emphasized the importance of further deepening bilateral relations, particularly highlighting the need to expand economic cooperation. According to him, there is also significant potential for developing cooperation in the fields of artificial intelligence and innovative technologies.

For his part, the Ambassador expressed his gratitude for the reception and for the cooperation throughout their joint work. Andrew Turner noted that Canada highly appreciates Armenia’s continued efforts aimed at establishing peace and stability in the region and is ready to continue its support in this direction. He also emphasized Canada’s readiness to continue supporting Armenia’s efforts to strengthen democracy.

During the meeting, the sides emphasized the importance of consistent steps aimed at promoting cooperation between Armenia and Canada in areas of mutual interest. Both sides stressed the need to deepen economic cooperation, expand trade and economic ties, and strengthen cooperation in the fields of high technology and innovation.

The conversation also touched upon the development of parliamentary diplomacy and opportunities to expand cooperation in this area. The importance of applying Canadian best practices in the development of political culture and further strengthening democratic institutions was highlighted.

The sides also discussed opportunities to enhance cultural ties between Armenia and Canada. In this context, they emphasized the importance of making more effective use of the existing potential for cooperation within the framework of La Francophonie and expanding mutual ties.
