President Vahagn Khachaturyan received Ambassador of Canada to Armenia Andrew Turner

President of the Republic Vahagn Khachaturyan received Andrew Turner, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Armenia.

The President congratulated Ambassador Turner on Canada’s national holiday and asked him to convey his warmest wishes to the leadership and the friendly people of Canada.

Welcoming the Ambassador, President Khachaturyan noted that relations between Armenia and Canada have followed a positive trajectory in recent years. The President expressed his gratitude for Canada’s consistent support for Armenia, emphasizing that its backing of Armenia’s independence and sovereignty is of great importance to the country’s security and development.

“In recent years, our bilateral relations have developed very dynamically. I believe this is also due to the Republic of Armenia’s consistent policy of advancing the country along the path of democracy.

Canada is widely recognized around the world as a country that has consistently supported democracy and, conversely, has always taken a firm stance against countries that have pursued anti-democratic policies and sought to establish authoritarian systems.

I am confident that our continued cooperation will create new opportunities and directions for partnership between our two countries,” the President stated.

President Khachaturyan also highly appreciated Canada’s support for Armenia in the face of regional challenges, as well as its participation in the European Union Civilian Mission, describing it as an important contribution to strengthening peace and stability in the region.

Ambassador Andrew Turner thanked the President for the warm reception and congratulations, reaffirming Canada’s commitment to continuing its support for Armenia’s peace agenda and democratic reforms.

During the meeting, the interlocutors discussed a number of issues on the bilateral agenda, highlighting the importance of the continued development of political dialogue, the expansion of economic and trade relations, and the deepening of cooperation in the field of high technologies.

The sides also emphasized the importance of enhancing parliamentary cooperation and applying Canada’s best practices, particularly in the reform of the justice system and in the establishment and strengthening of democratic institutions.

The discussion also touched upon opportunities to expand cultural cooperation between the two countries.
