President of the Republic Vahagn Khachaturyan met with President of Bulgaria, Iliana Iotova at the Presidential Residence.

The President of the Republic of Bulgaria is in Armenia on a working visit to participate in the European Political Community Summit.

Welcoming his counterpart, President Khachaturyan thanked her for visiting Armenia and for participating in the important international summit taking place in Yerevan.

He emphasized that Armenia attaches great importance to the continuous development of friendly relations and close cooperation with Bulgaria, also referring to the jointly signed declaration on strategic partnership, which reflects the two countries’ readiness to further deepen multifaceted cooperation.

Iliana Iotova expressed gratitude for the warm reception and hospitality, stressing that Bulgaria and Armenia have established traditions of cooperation that contribute to strengthening and expanding bilateral interaction across various sectors.

During the meeting, the sides discussed prospects for expanding bilateral economic cooperation and reaffirmed their commitment to developing trade and economic relations.

The activities of the Armenia-Bulgaria Chamber of Commerce and Industry were highlighted as an effective platform for enhancing business ties and implementing new initiatives. 

The interlocutors also discussed issues related to the international cooperation agenda. President Khachaturyan informed his counterpart that Armenia will host COP17 in October 2026, the 17th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, which will be preceded by a Leaders’ Summit scheduled for October 16, 2026, in Yerevan. In this context, President Khachaturyan expressed hope that the Bulgarian side would participate in the summit at a high level.

The sides also touched upon regional developments, emphasizing that the establishment of peace in the region creates new opportunities for promoting interregional ties and advancing communication projects. In this context, the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP) project was considered important.

Special emphasis was also placed on the importance of further developing cooperation in the Black Sea region, which was viewed as an important platform for expanding Armenia’s transit and infrastructure opportunities.

During the meeting, the role of interparliamentary cooperation was highlighted as an important factor in strengthening bilateral relations and institutional development.

The sides reaffirmed their readiness to continue cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, contributing to the further strengthening and development of Armenia-Bulgaria relations. Particular attention was given to the importance of exchanging best practices in the development and strengthening of democratic institutions, as well as undertaking joint efforts when necessary.
