President Vahagn Khachaturyan met with Queen Mathilde of Belgium
President of the Republic Vahagn Khachaturyan received Her Majesty Queen Mathilde of the Belgians.
The President welcomed the Queen’s visit to Armenia and highly appreciated Her Majesty’s leadership as an advocate of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
“It is a great honor for us to host You. The purpose of Your visit — the promotion of the UN Sustainable Development Goals — will undoubtedly be very beneficial for the Republic of Armenia, helping us to fully fulfill our commitments for 2030. We highly value Your leadership in this area and Your dedication to addressing such vital issues that concern all humanity,” the President said.
Queen Mathilde expressed her gratitude for the warm reception, noting that she was impressed by Armenia and pleased to be in the country within the framework of the UN Sustainable Development Goals advocacy mission.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the programs being implemented within the framework of the UN SDGs and the steps being taken to advance them. Both sides highlighted the crucial role of education as a cornerstone for overcoming global humanitarian challenges and ensuring the sustainable development of societies.
The conversation also touched upon Armenia–Belgium bilateral relations. The importance of expanding cooperation in the field of economy, high technologies, promoting innovative solutions, and implementing joint initiatives was emphasized. President Khachaturyan noted that the partnership between Armenia and Belgium, based on mutual trust, can acquire a new dimension in the areas of science, education, and digital technologies.
The sides also exchanged views on the upcoming 2026 Biodiversity COP-17 Conference and the European Political Community Summit, both to be held in Armenia. In this context, it was noted that Armenia approaches international environmental initiatives with great responsibility and strives to be an active participant in global efforts to overcome environmental challenges. The need for global unity to preserve biodiversity and ensure environmental sustainability was stressed.
The discussion also underscored the importance of efforts aimed at establishing peace in the region. Both sides emphasized that peace and cooperation are fundamental values of international relations, and their strengthening is the key condition for the progress of states and nations.
