President Vahagn Khachaturyan visited the Argavand Mausoleum
The President of the Republic, Vahagn Khachaturyan, accompanied by the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia, Zhanna Andreasyan, and the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Armenia, Mahmedgeldi Ayazov, visited the Turkmen mausoleum located in the village of Argavand in the Ararat region.
The monument-mausoleum, built by Armenian masters, is a synthesis of medieval Armenian and Islamic architectural elements. It is a tuff-built, tower-like, domed structure divided into three equal parts, with the dome constructed of baked brick. An inscription in Arabic script on the front of the mausoleum states that this sacred domed mausoleum was built in 1413.
The President familiarized himself with the conditions of preservation of the historical and cultural monument. Minister Andreasyan informed the President that although restoration and improvement works have been carried out in different years at the site, there currently exists a project for the complete restoration of the monument and the improvement of the surrounding area.
In his conversation with the Ambassador, President Khachaturyan emphasized that the joint efforts invested in preserving and restoring Turkmen cultural heritage in Armenia and Armenian cultural heritage in Turkmenistan are aimed at strengthening the friendship and cooperation between the two peoples.
