Presidents of Armenia and Germany Delivered Statements for the Media
The President of the Republic of Armenia, Vahagn Khachaturyan, and the President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, summarized the results of their meetings in Yerevan through statements for the media and answered questions from journalists.
Statement by President Vahagn Khachaturyan:
“It is a great honor for me to host the President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier today on the occasion of his first official visit of to Armenia. Your visit to Armenia is another testament to the friendship between our two peoples, as well as to the importance of Armenia-Germany cooperation.
I am pleased that today we had the opportunity to engage in effective discussions on various aspects of Armenian-German cooperation and to outline new prospective areas for mutual collaboration.
During our meeting, we addressed several key issues of mutual interest. We discussed ways of expanding trade and economic relations between two countries. We noted with satisfaction that Germany is one of Armenia’s main trading partners and ranks first among EU countries in this regard.
We highly appreciate Germany’s continued support for Armenia in promoting sustainable economic and social development across many priority areas, including education, renewable energy, and infrastructure. I also expressed my gratitude for Germany’s longstanding support for Armenia’s democratic reforms.
We also discussed Armenia’s deepening partnership with the European Union, emphasizing the crucial role of Germany in this context.
Additionally, we addressed several issues related to regional developments, stressing the need for peaceful resolution of existing conflicts based on the principles of international law, mutual respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and equality among all countries.
We underlined the importance of Germany’s consistent support for efforts aimed at normalizing relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
I also briefed my counterpart on Armenia’s efforts toward establishing stability and peace in the South Caucasus. Once again, I highlighted the importance of unblocking regional infrastructure and, in this context, the “Crossroads of Peace” project.
In conclusion, I would like to once again express my gratitude for our profound and meaningful discussions, as well as for Your support in strengthening the friendship between Germany and Armenia.”
