President Vahagn Khachaturyan participated in the event dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Human Rights Defender’s Institute of Armenia

President of the Republic Vahagn Khachaturyan participated at the opening ceremony of the International Conference "Ombuds Institutions/NHRIs amid Turbulent Times: Resilience and Challenges".

The conference is dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Human Rights Defender’s Institute of Armenia.

The President of the Republic welcomed the high-level conference and made a speech.

"I cordially congratulate all of us on the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Human Rights Defender’s Institute of Armenia and welcome the holding of such a high-level conference, which is a very good opportunity to discuss the successes achieved in the field of human and civil rights protection, plans for the future and existing challenges.

The Human Rights Defender’s Institute of Armenia is the only national human rights and ombudsman institution in our country, whose role can hardly be overestimated in the effective protection and promotion of human rights and freedoms.

The current challenges of human rights protection in the modern world require the joint efforts of all state institutions, human rights organizations, civil society and, of course, international partners. As a result of the latter, the state undertakes to create mechanisms that guarantee the protection of the rights and dignity of everyone.

The work on the protection of human rights in Armenia over the past 20 years has been of great importance in the development of our society and, moreover, democracy, and the Human Rights Defender’s Institute has played a significant role here.

From this point of view, I also attach special importance to the topics included in the agenda of the conference, which fully reflect the problems and challenges currently existing in the field of human and civil rights protection in Armenia.

Dear attendees,

I am confident that the conference, held at such a high level, will in the near future comprehensively study the necessary measures and steps to protect human and civil rights, which will be called upon to continuously strengthen and establish democracy in our country.
