President of the Republic Vahagn Khachaturyan received the newly appointed Head of the Council of Europe Office in Armenia Maxime Longangué.
Welcoming the guest, the president congratulated him on assuming the important mission of the head of the Council of Europe office in Armenia and expressed hope that the cooperation between the Council of Europe and the Republic of Armenia will continue to expand.
The President of the Republic noted: "I extend my thanks to You for the support you provided to our country. In fact, the activities of the Council of Europe office have had a great role in our lives, especially from the point of view of the establishment of democratic institutions. I am sure that this work will be continuous. The experience that the Council of Europe and its structures have is quite large. The exchange of that experience between the Council of Europe and Armenia is very important for us and appreciable. In this regard, I would like to emphasize the importance of the support of the Council of Europe in the reforms implemented in the justice sector.
Maxime Longangué expressed his gratitude for the reception and good wishes and said: "Mr. President, it is a great honor for me to be in Armenia and to serve as the head of the Council of Europe office and to represent the Secretary General. Armenia is a country that I have been following for quite a long time in my previous capacities, it is a country where I have lived and I will make continuous efforts to further strengthen our cooperation."
During the meeting, a number of agenda issues of multi-level cooperation between the Council of Europe and Armenia were discussed. The importance of the consistent implementation of systemic democratic reforms launched in recent years in justice, human rights, military, health and other fields was emphasized.
Over the course of the conversation, a reference was made to the works and necessary steps in the direction of the establishment of democratic institutions, the development of civil society, and the implementation of the anti-corruption strategy.
Both sides expressed readiness to jointly contribute to instilling democratic values and strengthening them in various spheres of the country's life. In this context, President Vahagn Khachaturyan emphasized that Armenia has a principled approach to rooting the fundamental ideas and norms of democracy and is steadily moving along that path.
At the end of the meeting, the President of the Republic assured that he is ready to contribute to the activities and initiatives of the Council of Europe Office in Armenia to the extent possible.
