President Vahagn Khachaturyan meets with Beatriz Argimón, Vice President of Uruguay, President of the Senate
President of the Republic of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan visited the Senate of Uruguay within the framework of his official visit to the Eastern Republic of Uruguay.
Upon entering the Parliament, the President was welcomed by the Presidents of the Senate and the House of Representatives. A meeting was held in the Senate with the Vice President of Uruguay, the President of the Senate, Beatriz Argimón, which was also attended by the President of the House of Representatives, Sebastián Andújar.
Welcoming President Vahagn Khachaturyan, the President of the Senate thanked him for his visit and emphasized that she was happy to host the President of Armenia in the Senate of Uruguay, which they also call the "House of Democracy," since for Uruguay democracy is an unparalleled value and since the establishment of the Republic, all parliamentary parties have held the office.
The President of the Republic of Armenia expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and emphasized that democracy is the highest value for Uruguay and Armenia alike. In his speech, Vahagn Khachaturyan noted that after independence, Armenia adopted the principles of development pursuing the democratic path, and although the democratization processes in our country over the past 3 decades have overcome various trials, in recent years, Armenia has been firmly committed to democratic values and the position of establishing democratic institutions.
In this context, President Khachaturyan emphasized that the role of the Parliament in establishing and strengthening the democratic institutions, as well as in the state administration system of Armenia in general, is very significant, as our country has transitioned to a parliamentary administration system since 2018.
During the conversation, the President of the Republic, represented by the President of the Senate, thanked the people and the state of Uruguay for being the first to recognize the Genocide, as well as for taking a clear and fair position on the challenges faced by the Republic of Armenia in recent years.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the possibilities of promoting sectoral cooperation between Armenia and Uruguay, particularly in the field of high technologies, education among others.
In his speech, President Vahagn Khachaturyan also touched upon the realities and developments in the South Caucasus region. The President reaffirmed the clear position of establishing good and unconditional relations with the neighbors.
At the meeting, both sides positively evaluated the forthcoming opening of the Armenian Embassy in Uruguay which will contribute to the activation of the contacts between the two countries at various levels. To this end, the need for high-level mutual political visits and efforts to promote parliamentary diplomacy was also emphasized.
