President Vahagn Khachaturyan meets with Prime Minister of Lithuania Ingrida Šimonytė

President of the Republic of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania Ingrida Šimonytė at the residence of the President.

The President welcomed the guest and noted, "I am glad to host you at the residence of the President of the Republic of Armenia and I thank you for your visit. Such visits are of great importance for us in these difficult days. Thank you also for your support that is both material, which is much needed to help our forcibly displaced compatriots, and political, expressed through statements, and of course also moral, human support, which is highly appreciated. Always in difficult times, friends extend a helping hand which is now exemplified by your step.

I am also confident that during your visit very specific discussions will be held that will contribute to the development of economic relations between our two countries."

Expressing gratitude to the President for the reception, Prime Minister Šimonytė emphasized that she values effective cooperation with Armenia on both bilateral and European Union platforms and the latter has a clear tendency of consistent development.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the possibilities and prospects of promoting Armenian-Lithuanian political and economic contacts and full exercise of the existing cooperative potential. The interlocutors also touched upon the possibilities of implementation of joint exchange programs of best practices in the fields of high technologies, healthcare, education among others. Both sides underscored the importance and further development of close cooperation between the two countries on the European Union and international platforms.

During the discussion, ideas were exchanged on the protection of the rights of more than 100,000 displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh and seeking solutions to humanitarian issues. The interlocutors also touched upon the general realities and developments in the South Caucasus region. In this context, President Vahagn Khachaturyan reaffirmed Armenia's clear commitment to establishing sustainable and lasting peace in the region and good relations with its neighbors.
