President Vahagn Khachaturyan receives the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the German Bundestag Michael Roth

The President of the Republic of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan received the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the German Bundestag Michael Roth.

In his welcome remarks, the President noted, “We greatly value your visit to Armenia. Within the period of independence, Armenian-German relations have undergone dynamic development covering various fields. All this contributed to the establishment and development of our friendly relations.

The rapprochement and activation of inter-parliamentary relations is also essential for the improvement of the administration system of our country.

I firmly believe that not only will your visit enhance our parliamentary ties but will also contribute to increasing the efficiency of the administration system of the Republic of Armenia.”

Expressing gratitude for the reception, Michael Roth noted. "Thank you very much, Mr. President, for your hospitality. The relations that we have with the parliamentarians as well as the government representatives are very good and productive. However, I believe they are not sufficient in the times we live, particularly in the period of uncertainty, crises and wars. Therefore, I would like you to perceive this visit of mine as a modest step, a sign of solidarity towards a country that is moving towards the family of universal European set of beliefs with democratic values."

In the course of the meeting, the sides touched upon a wide range of issues related to the consistent development of friendly relations established between Armenia and Germany after independence.

The President of the Republic of Armenia presented details about the developments in the region, Armenia's security challenges and the possibilities to address them.

President Khachaturyan highlighted that Armenia has adopted a clear position to establish sustainable peace in the region and good relations with its neighbors. In this regard, Michael Roth assured that Germany fully supports the efforts of Armenia and the Armenian Government aimed at resolving regional issues and establishing lasting peace.

During the discussion, the sides attached importance to democratic reforms implemented in Armenia and the establishment of democratic institutions. President Khachaturyan emphasized that Armenia has firmly chosen the path of democracy and is steadily moving along that path.

Concluding the meeting, ideas were exchanged with regard to pathways to further expand the Armenian-German multi-level cooperation.
