President Vahagn Khachaturyan received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Greece to Armenia Evangelos Tournakis

President Vahagn Khachaturyan received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Hellenic Republic to Armenia Evangelos Tournakis.

Welcoming the guest, the President congratulated him on the Greek Independence Day.

“My cordial congratulations to you on the Greek Independence Day. The words I want to convey to you and the Greek people are not ordinary words, because, actually, we have also had a similar fate in some sense. Even though we managed to reach that goal and get independent a little later, you gained your independence and stood by it, and up till today, you are the continuation of the Greek people of not only the new times, I mean, the new times of independence, but of the history of the same people. In fact, democracy is based on Greek philosophical values. I wish you success and new achievements,” said President Khachaturyan.

Expressing his gratitude for the reception, Ambassador Tournakis noted that it’s an honor for him to be welcomed at the Residence of the President.

“Thank you for this opportunity, for welcoming me today to deliver your congratulations on our holiday.

You also highlighted the common historic features of our two peoples. We are obliged to preserve democratic values, in order to face the current threats,” particularly said the Ambassador.

During the meeting, the sides discussed a wide range of questions regarding the deepening of cooperation between Armenia and Greece.

They touched upon the regional issues in the South Caucasus. Both sides highlighted the imperative to restore the normal operation of the Lachin Humanitarian Corridor. In his speech, the President noted that Armenia adheres to its position of establishing peace in the region and good and stable relations with the neighboring countries.
