President Vahagn Khachaturyan received the delegation led by the Chairman of the Iraqi-Armenian friendship group of the Council of Representatives of the Republic of Iraq Mohammad Sadik Mohammad. RA NA member Rustam Bakoyan also took part in the meeting.
Welcoming the guests, President Khachaturyan noted: “I am glad to welcome you to the Republic of Armenia. Indeed, your visit is yet another testament to our centuries-old friendship. Our relations have been developing dynamically in recent years, and interparliamentary relations have a special role in them.
Looking at the potential of our two countries, we can say that there is a lot to do. We can use our economic opportunities to raise the level of prosperity in our countries, but it does not work to that extent yet.
I am sure that your visit will promote and raise the relations between our two countries to a higher level.”
Expressing his gratitude for the reception, Mohammad Sadik noted: “Thank you, esteemed Mr. President. We are proud to meet you and want to express our gratitude for this good opportunity.”
The Iraqi parliamentarian highlighted that their delegation is composed of representatives of different segments of Iraqi society and national minorities, and expressed hope that next time the delegation will also include Armenians.
During the meeting, the sides touched upon the multi-faceted opportunities and promotion of cooperation between Armenia and Iraq. Special emphasis was put on the importance of active interparliamentary contacts. In his speech, President Vahagn Khachaturyan noted that he would be glad to welcome the President of Iraq Abdullatif Rashid in Armenia. In response, the head of the delegation noted that they would surely convey his invitation to their President.
The President also touched upon the existing issues and the general situation in our region. Vahagn Khachaturyan stressed that Armenia adheres to its position of establishing good relations with our neighbors and opening the borders without any preconditions. In this regard, both sides noted that the open borders would also greatly contribute to the rapprochement and development of trade and economic ties between Iraq and Armenia.
