President Vahagn Khachaturyan received the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Jean Asselborn

President Vahagn Khachaturyan received the delegation led by the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Jean Asselborn.

Welcoming the Minister and the delegation members, Vahagn Khachaturyan noted: “The relations between our countries are on a rather high level and are developing dynamically. As a result, we have a friendly country in the European Union, which is by our side under these tough circumstances and appreciates the policy our country adheres to and the values we have adopted, which are based on democratic principles, where the establishment of democratic institutions prevails. We don’t picture our future in any other way. 30 years ago, when Armenia was declared independent after the collapse of the Soviet Union, we took that path right away, and after some deviations, now we are undoubtedly moving through that path. I am sure that, in this respect, our cooperation will also contribute to the establishment of these democratic institutions in Armenia”.

Expressing his gratitude for the reception, Jean Asselborn noted that he is very glad to have the opportunity to visit Armenia. “I was in Armenia in 2018, and as a result of meetings with the Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and public sector representatives within the framework of this visit, I can say that the changes implemented in these years are visible.”

During the meeting, the sides discussed steps and projects aimed at fostering cooperation both on the bilateral platform and within the framework of the European Union.

They also spoke of the regional issues, the urgent need to unblock the Lachin humanitarian corridor, and the importance of resolving the existing conflicts through peaceful negotiations. President Vahagn Khachaturyan highlighted that Armenia’s position regarding the establishment of sustainable and everlasting peace in the South Caucasus and good relations with our neighbouring states is unequivocal.

At the end of the meeting, President Vahagn Khachaturyan awarded the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Jean Asselborn with the "Mkhitar Gosh" medal for his significant contribution to strengthening friendly ties between Armenia and Luxembourg and preserving universal values.
