Armenian-Egyptian high-level meetings were held, memorandums were signed

Today, at the Residence of the President, the Presidents of the Republic of Armenia and the Arab Republic of Egypt Vahagn Khachaturyan and Abdel Fattah El-Sisi had a private meeting, which was followed by the extended meeting of the delegations of the two countries.

President Vahagn Khachaturyan hailed the official visit of the delegation led by Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to the Republic of Armenia and noted that it is historic. According to the President, the friendship between the two countries has its roots in the depth of centuries and is continuously strengthened by stable relations between Armenia and Egypt. Welcoming his counterpart, President Khachaturyan also noted that the friendly people of Egypt were among the first to shelter thousands of Armenians who survived the cruelties of the Genocide in the Ottoman Empire, and the Armenians spread all over the world will never forget the hospitality the Egyptians displayed to our compatriots. According to the President, the Egyptian-Armenian community has become one of the momentous bridges connecting our fraternal countries.

Welcoming Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the members of the delegation during the extended meeting, President Vahagn Khachaturyan particularly said: “We are delighted to welcome you in the Republic of Armenia. I am happy to host you at the residence of the President of the Republic of Armenia. This is a historic event; the President of Egypt has arrived in Armenia with an official visit for the first time. Thank you. We are proud to have you here. During our private meeting, we also presented our worries to each other. Mr. President presented some issues concerning Egypt and the region. I presented the problems of our region and the Republic of Armenia.

It is no secret that Egypt is a superpower in its region, and it is well-known that it has a solid experience regarding mediation missions, and most importantly, it is a country that implements the ideology of peace, lives and coexists with its neighbours peacefully. In this respect, we are very similar to one another, for the policy of the Republic of Armenia is the same: to reach peace in the region, and live a peaceful and prosperous life with the neighbours. I have no doubts that we need the experience of Egypt, too.

Once again, thank you for the visit. I am confident that our today’s meetings will be effective and will contribute to the development of the relations between our countries.”

President Khachaturyan attached importance to the full realization of the potential of the development of Armenian-Egyptian trade relations in the fields of agriculture, high technologies and tourism.

The President of Egypt Abdel Fattah El-Sisi expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and attached importance to the need to advance Armenian-Egyptian multi-layered cooperation in the direction of the development of both trade-economic and diplomatic relations. In his speech, the President of Egypt noted that Egypt has also faced regional conflicts and, in its turn, is ready to put every effort into the peaceful settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict. “Up to these days, Egypt is witnessing different regional issues and conflicts, and it is important to note that starting from the 70s of the last century, Egypt has taken the path of peace and has faced numerous obstacles along the way...

During our private meeting, I mentioned that we have a neutral position regarding the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, and in this respect, if you accept our mediation and would like us to assume the role of mediators, we are ready.”

During the meeting, the Presidents touched upon the exchange of best practices in the fields of agriculture and infrastructure, the implementation of various investment programs, as well as ways to overcome obstacles facing the development of tourism between the two countries, particularly the possibilities of having regular direct flights between Yerevan and Cairo.

Afterwards, Memorandums of Understanding “On cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Armenia and the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt in the fields of science and technology”, "Investment Support Center" Foundation and "Directorate of Investments and Free Trade Zones of the Arab Republic of Egypt", “On cooperation between the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports and the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports in the field of physical culture and sports” were signed with the participation of the presidents of the two countries.
