Expressing his gratitude for the reception, Ambassador Smail Benamara emphasized that he would spare no effort to develop bilateral relations and increase the level of diplomatic and cultural contacts.
"I assure you that Algeria has a great desire to raise the level of relations with Armenia," the Ambassador stressed.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the opportunities and perspectives of cooperation between Armenia and Algeria in the fields of economy, tourism and culture, visa facilitation and diplomatic consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries.
In his speech, the President emphasized that although Armenia and Algeria efficiently cooperate on international platforms, there is a necessity to activate direct contacts between the two countries.
The newly appointed Ambassador in his turn underlined the need for high-level state visits and expressed willingness to exert efforts in that direction.
President Vahagn Khachaturyan also touched upon the Azerbaijani encroachment on the sovereign territory of Armenia on September 13, the general regional developments and Armenia’s position regarding the relations with the neighboring countries, that is, the normalization of relations with Turkey with no preconditions and the achievement of sustainable peace with Azerbaijan. The President emphasized that Armenia’s approaches are very clear-cut and are aimed at establishing peace in the region and changing the general ambience, in response to which the newly appointed Ambassador highlighted that Algeria undoubtedly upholds the principle of peaceful resolution of conflicts and is ready to support the establishment of peace in the South Caucasus as much as possible.
