President Sarkissian received NATO Secretary General's Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia Javier Colomina Piriz
Today, President of the Republic Armen Sarkissian received NATO Secretary General's Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia Javier Colomina Piriz, who is in Armenia on a regional visit, and the accompanying delegation.
President Sarkissian emphasized the importance of Armenia's normal relations of cooperation and partnership with NATO. He noted that Armenia continues strongly contributing to the international collective efforts to establish peace and stability.
The Special Representative of the NATO Secretary General said that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization valued the cooperation with Armenia and stressed the importance of continuing the political dialogue. He also underscored the great contribution of Armenia to NATO missions and the issue of ensuring international security.
President Sarkissian and the Special Representative of the NATO Secretary General touched upon the post-war situation, developments, and challenges in our country and the region. Speaking about the humanitarian problems caused by the war, the President of Armenia noted that Azerbaijan continued detaining Armenian prisoners of war and civilians, which is a gross violation of international humanitarian law.
President Sarkissian once again stressed that the active involvement of the NATO member Turkey in the 44-day war was an incomprehensible and crucially serious issue, raised by him in October 2020 when visiting the NATO headquarters.
