Today, President of the Republic Armen Sarkissian received Human Right Defender Arman Tatoyan.
At the meeting, they touched upon the fate of Armenian prisoners of war and civilians, who were taken hostage by Azerbaijan, and the undertaken steps to return them. The Human Rights Defender informed about the actions taken by his office, also the discussions he had with his foreign counterparts.
The President noted that the primary responsibility of Armenia's and Artsakh's authorities, and especially relevant bodies, is to take all measures and establish all possible contacts in order to immediately return our compatriots, forcibly held captive and treated barbarically and inhumanly, to Homeland; also, to find out about the fate of those missing. The President said that after the trilateral ceasefire statement, he repeatedly raised the issue of the unreserved observance of the humanitarian law and immediate return of the prisoners of war before his foreign colleagues. He stressed that he would continue to exert his efforts in that direction and use all the possibilities.
Arman Tatoyan noted that he had also appealed to the international community, and especially the structures with a mandate of defending human rights to help urgently resolve the problem.
At the meeting, they expressed hope that the issue of Armenian prisoners of war and civilians taken hostage would resolve as soon as possible, and they would return to their Homeland.
